‘Heldenorgel’

The Hero’s Organ

The organist sits inside this small structure while playing the Hero’s Organ. The reason for this is that the delay of the sound emitting from the pipes messes with what the organist is hearing as he plays. It is an honor to be asked to play this historic organ – but as we found out, because this organ is only played at noon time each day, the organist must practice elsewhere. The organ is played year round so the maintenance is constant due to weather conditions. Nonetheless – the recital was amazing. Do take the time to attend a performance during your stay in Austria. Tours of the fortress (seen at the upper left of the photo) are also available.
